This year we took a three week trip through America's Southwest. This is Indian Country and we visited Indian reservations and Indian ruins. Also purchased some Indian jewelry.
Three of us, Yoshiko, myself, and our friend from Japan, Tsukiko, travelled in our 25 foot Airstream trailer. Our 3300 mile route is shown on the map below.
The map shows our route from Saratoga to Yosemite, to the Bristlecone Pine forest, south past the east side of Death Valley to Las Vegas and up to Zion National Park. After Zion we headed south, past Las Vegas again, for Lake Havasu City where we had a solar panel installed on the trailer. Then north to Monument Valley, Garden of the Gods and Natural Bridges. From there to Hovensweep and on to Durango, CO. After Durango we went further east to Taos, Santa Fe and Albuquerque, NM. From there we headed back west to Canyon de Chelly, the Petrified Forest and to Sedona, AZ. Then a quick drive back to Saratoga.
We left home on Monday, September 25 at 6 am (to beat the rush hour traffic) and headed straight for Yosemite National Park where we had lunch by Tenaya Lake.
We drove over the Tioga Pass road where we stopped near the top Yoshiko and Tsukiko are trying to push this big boulder. Tenaya Lake - our lunnch stop The drive down the east side of the pass is long and steep.
for the view.
Half dome can be seen in the background.
Our brakes overheated a bit and we had to stop and let them cool.
Fortunately I had just installed new brake pads so we were good for the trip.
On the other side of Tioga Pass we stopped at the now viewpoint overlooking Mono Lake. There is a lot more water in the lake these days since it is now allowed to go to Los Angeles anymore.
