Oregon Trip 2005 - Lehman Hot Springs

Next morning was even colder and wetter than the previous and the mountains all around us were blanketed in fresh snow. So we packed up and took off early to go to Leyman Hot Springs (No. 13 on the map), in an obscure part of northeastern Oregon, where we might soak and warm up in the hot pool there. We arrived about noon, registered, set up the trailer, had lunch and headed to the hot spring pool. It was good. A rather unique place in the middle of nowhere, and it was quite busy. Many people were there.

We had a second session in the pool before dinner. But upon returning to the trailer I discovered a very flat tire. So an hour was spent repairing that before preparing our dinner of mussels and spaghetti noodles, avocado salad and beets. Dinner was good.

That night I felt very cold in bed. When I got up to make some adjustments and switch on a heater I discovered the water would not flow from the tap. The line was frozen! So outside to disconnect the frozen hose from the trailer, but could not turn of the frozen valve. It was really cold! But the night sky was beautiful and Orion shone brightly overhead. Anyway, I put on both the electric ceramic heater and the catalytic gas heater to try to warm up the trailer a bit and get back to sleep. In the morning, Sunday, Sept. 25, I used the electric hair drier to thaw out the outside water valve so I could shut it off. It was the coldest night of our entire trip. We left about 8 am for warmer climes on the banks of the Columbia River in southern Washington.
