Death Valley - 1999 Trip

In March 1999 Steve went to Death Valley and met up with Cliff and Judy Akin who drove down from Montana. Yoshi stayed home to prepare for several art shows coming up in the Spring months.

We spent 10 days exploring some of the new areas in the expanded park and some areas outside of the park. Access to several of these areas required the use of a 4WD high-clearance vehicle and some hiking. Fortunately the GMC Suburban filled the bill for the vehicle and our legs did the rest.

Areas we visited included:

• Afton Canyon - a BLM area south of Death Valley National Park
• Eureka Valley - one of the new large additions to the park
• Hunter Mountain - also added to the park
• Rhyolite - a BLM area just east of the park
• Titus Canyon - our favorite part of Death Valley
• Fall Canyon - our first visit to the canyon which parallels Titus Canyon
