Temple Square


This is the small church (assembly hall) which was built with left over materials from the larger Salt Lake Temple. Completed in 1882. It is used for meetings and concerts.


Tjis is the organ case inside the Mormon Tabernacle. It has ocer 12,000 pipes and is the 12th largest pipe organ in the world. During the organ recital various lighting effects were used, one of which is shown in the photo on the right.


This is the Salt Lake Temple. It is considered sacred ground and only members of the church in good standing are permitted in. It is used essentially for marriages and baptisms. It took 40 years to build (between 1853 and 1893)

we went to the top floor (26th) of the Church Office Building, headquarters for the Mormon Church. There were nice views of Salt Lake City to be seen, including the state capitol building and this red mansion.


Another view was of the university stadium which will be used for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2002 winter olympics.
Yoshiko can be seen standing by the memorial to the Mormon pioneers who hame west pulling their carts by hand .


These pictures show the large auditorium of the new conference center. There are three tiers of seats, each tier has 7000 seats. Quite impressive.


The rostrum and the organ case in the new conference center. The woodwork on the rostrum is cherry veneer, all from a single cherry tree from the east coast.
