COLORADO TRIP - 2001

Rocky Mountain National Park

We spent the day driving from east to west through the Rocky Mountain National Park. We stopped and took several short hikes to see some of the special attractions.

One of the first stops was by a cascade that developed from a flood in 1982 when a dam further up the mountain gave way. The flood created quite a wash. At the time two campers died in the sudden flood. Yoshiko is sketching the cascade. Perhaps we'll see it on one of her paintings someday.

There were nice streams and waterfalls near the road - just a few hundred yards away. Can you see Yoshiko down there sketching?

More creek, cascade and waterfall pictures

This is a nice waterfall. Don't get too close to the edge Yoshiko! She always scares me.

YOshiko liked the character of this aspen tree.

At the top we stopped for a picnic lunch

In the bowl below there was a herd of elk eating the mountain tundra.

At another stop we found the nice little lake. Even though a thunder storm was brewing beyond the lake was still and calm.

Another grand view from the rockies.
