COLORADO TRIP - 2001

9/2/01 (Sunday) - Elko Nevada to Boomtown, Nevada

Sunday, September 2

Filled up with gas this morning in Elko ($1.699/gal) and headed for Boomtown, 300 miles west.  Nice drive.  Stopped after 1 hour for breakfast (in the trailer) and about 3-1/2 hours later for lunch. Yoshiko sketched a bit along the way.

Approaching Sparks, NV the traffic increased noticeably.  In Sparks there was a big festival under way.  Turns out it is the BBQ Rib cook-off.  We decided to forego that activity since we plan to go out for the "all-you-can-eat" Maine Lobster Buffet in the evening in Boomtown.

Stopped to fill up with gas before going to the RV park. Took about 20 minutes to get gas.  All those Californians who came across the border for good and cheap gas were filling up the lanes (18 pumps).  Gas was $1.639/gal.  Now were all 'set for the sprint home tomorrow.

We want at 5 pm to the lobster buffet but the line was so long (at least a 2 hour wait) that we gave it up and went to the prime rib restaurant instead. Steve had the prime rib and Yoshiko opted for the halibut. Both were very good and reasonably priced.

After dinner I got $10 worth of quartes and showed Yoshiko how to play the slot machines. She was happy to just keep feeding the quarters to the machine, but when she got $5.50 ahead I recommended she stop and keep her winnings.

We went back the the RV park and sat a bit by the Truckee River and watched the sunset.

Monday, September 3 (Labor Day)

Started home at 6:30 am and stopped an hour later along the road for breakfast in the trailer. Traffic was light and we were home before 1 pm.

The kittens were still in the yard and were more active and far ranging than when we left two weeks earlier.

Parked and unloaded the trailer and were glad to be home. Was a great trip.
