COLORADO TRIP - 2001

8/30/01 (Thursday) - Dinosaur National Monument to Heber, Utah

We left the RV Park in Dinosaur at 8 am and went to the fossil fields and visitor center in Utah.  A shuttle bus took us to the excavation site which was in operation from 1909 to 1991.  Now the remainder of the site is preserved and we could see over 1600 dinosaur bones.  It was a nice visit and we picked up a couple of souvenirs for our two grandsons.

Here is a Stegosaurus in front of the visitor center which housed the fossil cliff.

We drove on to Heber, UT and to a State Park campground just north.  We have a very nice site overlooking the reservoir.  Nice park - $15/night with water & electric (50 amps).  After disconnecting the trailer we drove over to Park City, site of some the alpine events for the 2002 winter Olympics.  Did some grocery shopping, drove the old town main street (in a pouring rain shower) &endash; really neat &endash; and returned back to camp. Because of the rain we did not get out to look around the old Main Street, nor did we take any pictures. It looked to be a really interesting town and we want to go back again for a more thorough visit.

After the grocery shopping we had fresh halibut, asparagus and avocado salad for dinner.  Nice.

The campground is fully reserved for the weekend so we will go into Salt Lake City tomorrow and stay in a large RV park near the town center and take in all the sites there.
