A Cross Country Odyssey - 2003

Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty, New York City

Our first afternoon we visited Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Ellis Island has been converted into a comprehensive museum about the history of immigration to America. It was quite interesting to visit there and we spent several hours. Later we took the ferry over to the Statue of Liberty before returning to our trailer. The statue itself was closed to visitors and only the grounds outside were accessible.

The immigration processing building on Ellis Island has now been converted to a museum

Back on the ferry we are headed for the Statue of Liberty

Here is a memorable photo of the two ladies with the statue in the background.

Beyond the Statue of Liberty can be seen the Manhatten skyline.

Off one point of the island (which is shaped like a star) we can see the ferry boats and the city of New York.
