Lobster Fishing, Cape Breton Island

Lobster fishing is a big activity in Nova Scotia. There are a fixed number of lobster fishing licenses available and if one wants to get a permit they must buy it for a very high price from someone who already has a license. Small lobster boats are used to go out and set the traps and to retrieve any lobsters that are caught. Each fisherman uses their own distinctive buoys to mark their traps. The buoys are all coded with a license number.
