Highland Village Museum

The Scottish Highland Village Museum depicts life styles from the early 1600's to the early 1900's in the area

This is the style of house the Scots lived in in Scotland. There are very few trees there so stone and earth are the basic building materials

In Nova Scotia there are plenty of trees so log and frame homes were constructed. Every house (practically) had a loom for weaving cloth

This multi tiered cook stove evolved from the days when cooking was done on the hearth of a fireplace. Everything is close to the floor.

These stoves were made in Lunenburg, NS, a place we will visit later.
The firebox is in the lower section, the upper section is an oven heated by ducted flu gas (and some conduction)

The Scots loved music and many played fiddles. It was unusual to have an organ in the home.

The blacksmith was an essential person in the community. He is making a nail for us. Tsukiko took it home with her to Japan.
