Vermont Granite Quarry

The Rock of Ages granite quarry is located in Graniteville, VT. Vermont is famous for high quality granite. The quarry was a fascinating place to visit and to see how the stone is taken from the ground and used.

The Rock of Ages granite factory specializes in memorial stones

An old section of the quarry is slowly being reclaimed by nature

The works and structures appear minature down in the quarry

A lot of cables and winch towers are used to move man, machinery and stone about.

The granite blocks that are removed are quite large. It takes about one week to remove one block

The cable work above is artistic

Can you see a man in the photo here? He is by the machine at the top

there are several men in this photo. You can get an idea of the scale of the granite blocks.
