Door County Wisconsin - pg 1

Door County, Wisconsin is a delightful summer vacation area. It is a penninsula extending into Lake Michgan and enjoys pleasant weather most of the year. The area was settled by people from Scandinavia and there is a strong influence of their culture there today. Because of its long coastline there is a lot of activity centered around commercial and sport fishing. The restaurants also feature fresh water fish in thier menus.

The county got its name "Door" from the " just off the northern edge of the penninsula. There have been many ship wrecks in this area and several sailors have lost their lives there.l

In Door County Fish Boil dinners are popular. We went to this one at Pelletier's in Fish Creek

White fish and potatoes are boiled together in a large kettle over an open fire. When the food is cooked a splash of kerosene is thown on the fire which causes the water to boil over and throw out the surface scum that accumulated during cooking.

The basket is removed from the kettle by two strong men

Local Wisconsin beer was a nice addition to the fish boil dinner

Cherries are a popular food item in Door County. The dried cherries are delicious and can be stored for a long time.

These two ladies are enjoying a rest break.
