Our rally site was
at the Indiana State fairgrounds and was just a half mile from where I grew
up in Indianapolis.
I can remember our home was located just two blocks from the Monon RR where
steam engines were used to pull the passenger trains between Cincinatti and
Chicago. One block the other direction we could ride on the streetcar for
20cents (10 cents for children). Milk was delivered to the house by a horse
drawn milkwagon, many homes had ice boxes instead of electric refrigerators.
When the ice truck came by we children liked to pick up ice chips off the
back of the truck.
A pedal powered icecream card brought ice cream and popcicles through the neighborhood. Once a week a horse drawn vegetable wagon would come around with fresh, organically grown, local vegetables. It was a nice place to grow up.
When I was 15 1/2 years old
my father would take me over to the state fairgrounds on Sunday mornings after
my paper deliveries and let me practice driving in our Studebaker Landcruiser.

We always looked forward to visiting relatives (grandparents, aunts &
uncles, etc.) in my parent's home town of Greensburg, IN. ocates some 60 miles
to the southeast of Indianapolis (about half way to Cincinatti) Greensburg
is the county seat of Decatur County, IN. It is famous for the tree which
grows on the top of the courthouse tower.
