A Cross Country Odyssey - 2003

Kansas and Missouri

St. Louis Arch - Gateway to the West

We continued our trip from Denver to St. Louis, following I-70 with stopovers in Oakley and Topeka, Kansas and in East St. Louis, IL. We stopped for sightseeing at Burlington, CO. (just near the Kansas border) to see the Old Town Museum; in Topeka, KS to visit the Hallmark factory where the greeting cards are printed; Lawrence, KS to see how custom built pipe organs are made; and to St. Louis, MO to visit the St. Louis Arch and the Anheuser-Busch brewery.

The trickiest driving on our entire 15,000+ mile journey was getting through Kansas City on the interstate system there. Our advice to anyone planning to travel through Kansas City is to study your map thoroughly and be prepared for some quick lane changes.
