We began our trip on May 5, traveling from Saratoga, CA to Bakersfield, CA on I-5 and CA-58. The next day we continued to Las Vegas, NV where we joined five other Airstream units with whom we would caravan together to Indianapolis to the Indy 500 rally. Our travel plans called for us to travel along I-70 directly to Indianapolis. This route took us through Denver, Kansas City and St. Louis.
First night out of Las Vegas we stayed in Beaver, UT. There we did a bit of sight-seeing on a scenic mountain loop road where we encountered snow, ice and cold weather. A couple of photos are included.
We continued on to Fruita, CO which is next to the Colorado National Monument and also some dinosaur digs. A late spring snow storm closed the Vail pass on I-70 so we stayed an extra day in Fruita before continuing on to Denver. This allowed us time to visit some Colorado wineries and to take a drive over Grand Mesa, the largest mesa in the world, where again, we ran into a lot of snow. (more photos)
