Lodi Grape Festival Joint Rally
Gold West, San Joaquin & Santa Clara Units
January 26-30, 2006

What a cool little fairgrounds!  Just a few miles North of Stockton on Hwy 99 is the cute little town of Lodi.  The Grape Festival grounds has good hookups and a nice rally hall called the "Barrel Room."  The downtown and railroad station are beautifully restored and wineries abound in the nearby countryside.  I found a great train shop there with a bunch of Lionel "O" gauge track and cars for sale.

Now we had some clout.  We had 18 rigs there from our unit, Golden West and San Joaquin.  Jack Hampel sat down with the other clubs and hammered out a tentative rally schedule for all of 2007.  He will report on that in a future newsletter.  Besides the Hampels, the Stansburys, Stoltenbergs and Pinis were present.  Aldo and Agnes had a visit from their daughter and great grand daughter and Santa Clara Mascot Mat Johnson visited his great Uncle Dallas.

We had a catered Mexican dinner and enjoyed a good rally movie from Airstream followed by root beer floats and the "March of the Penguins."  On Sunday we had another "Chicken Foot" tournament hosted by Judy Bechthold, and Cecelia won second place.  This was a successful first event for our joint unit rallies in 2006.
